The main points of the use of industrial connectors

Although each connector has a rated life. But for those industrial connectors used in industrial machinery, incorrect design and some other factors can also cause industrial connectors to fail prematurely, damaging expensive machinery. Therefore, some factors that cause connector failure are worth noting. The following are factors that cause industrial connector failures:

Repeated connection and disconnection of industrial connectors will cause the metal on the contacts to wear and corrode when exposed to water, dust, dirt, and other irritating elements, which may not engage properly when the mating pin is inserted into the connector housing.

For example, choosing special industrial connectors suitable for humid environments. If a standard connector is used in place of an IP68 or IP69 rated or sealed design connector, water will cause the connector to fail. Choosing an undersized connector can also reduce efficiency, thereby shortening the life of the connector.

If industrial connectors are not rated for very high or very low temperatures, they will eventually fail. Because the connector is not suitable for high temperatures, the insulation will fail and the conductivity will peak. If operated continuously at high temperatures, these spikes can increase the temperature, which can lead to corrosion and ultimately reduce the contact force. This will affect the electrical signals propagating through the connector and cable assembly.

While low temperatures don't affect industrial connectors as badly as high temperatures, low temperature designs should be considered if you know your application will require them. Exposure to sustained low temperatures can cause tin-plated connector materials to soften, increasing contact resistance. Also, low temperatures can affect other parts of the connector, such as making the plastic shell brittle.

If the application of industrial connectors will encounter destructive factors such as shock and vibration, a safety design that can produce strong locking is very important. Connector contacts, mating shells, and even cables can be damaged if not securely installed. In addition, connectors and cable assemblies must have proper strain relief and installation routing, and the use of guide channels, cable brackets, and cable glands helps ensure the rated assembly life of the connector.

Industrial connectors are frequently touched parts by our electronic engineers and technicians. It bridges communication between blocked or isolated circuits in a circuit so that current can flow and the circuit can perform its intended function. Connectors are indispensable components in electronic equipment. If you look along the current path, you will always find one or more connectors. However, if a common connector is exposed to extreme conditions, its performance and reliability will be degraded, and end-users will have to pay expensive maintenance to eliminate failures and replace accessories. As a result, a new connector was produced, specifically designed to create a robust Ethernet connection in harsh environments. It is tougher, stronger, and more durable than previous connectors. This new type of connector is often referred to as an "industrial connector".
